Determining the size of a swimming pool liner
Swimming pool liners come in an extensive range of standard sizes based upon the most popular modular pool measurements. They can also be made to order (usually only for beaded liners). The most common sizes are -
- 20 feet x 10 feet
- 24 feet x 12 feet
- 28 feet x 14 feet
- 30 feet x 14 feet
- 30 feet x 15 feet
- 32 feet x 16 feet
- 38 feet x 16 feet
- 36 feet x 18 feet
- 40 feet x 20 feet
Most pool liner sizes outside of the range above are treated as “made to order” liners and these tend to be for pools with unusual curves, or non geometrical plan shapes.
Getting prices on-line
Nearly every “on-line” retailer and supplier of swimming pool liners can instantly provide you with a quote over the internet and without the need for you to provide an email address or contact details.
Most retailer websites have a drop-down box which will give swimming pool liner prices for each of the standard pool sizes given above in a range of different colours including or excluding - combination liners, plain or patterned tile bands (borders), and customised liners. This is a great way of getting a general or specific idea of prices and styles.
Non standard swimming pool liners
If you have, or are buying, a non-standard sized or shaped swimming pool, then the internal measurements of the pool will need to be taken.
If the pool is an unusual shape with curves or non-right angle returns, it may be advisable to get a professional swimming pool installer to take the measurements.
If the new liner is a replacement for an old liner and you do not have the original measurements, it is good practice to temporarily remove the old liner and measure the physical pool size “as is”, rather than making an allowance for an existing liners gauge.
Terms and conditions and guarantees
Before you buy a liner, check out the supplier’s guarantee along with the terms and conditions of the liner’s fitting and use. Below are some examples of the clauses and conditions that you can expect.
General
- Home pool liners are designed for use in private domestic pools with
normal bathing loads and a pool temperature of no more than (e.g. 29°C or 84°F).
Pool liners have a five year guarantee covering material and manufacturing fault. (Damage during installation is not included in guarantees.)
Installation
- When installing a liner it is recommended that the walls and floor of the swimming pool are treated with a suitable algaecide and fungicide. These treatments prevent microbial attack and discolouration of the liner.
Make sure that the surface to which the pool liner is being fitted is compatible with, and suitable to receive a vinyl liner.
Do not install a pool liner if the temperature is below (e.g. 50°F or 10°C). Vinyl liners lose their malleability in cool temperatures and become stiff and inflexible.
