Above-ground swimming Pools

An above ground swimming pool is a swimming pool that sits on, or has its base supported on, the finished ground level on which it is located. i.e. This kind of pool is not submerged in an excavation or "hole in the ground".

A variation on the above-ground swimming pool is a pool that is semi-above-ground. These styles of pool are partially submerged in the ground, but typically have 50% or more of the pools walls projecting above finished ground level.

Above-ground swimming pools have become popular because firstly, they are cheap to buy and secondly, they are quick and easy to install and they do not require any major building work or excavation. It may however be necessary to construct a level concrete raft foundation to support the above-ground swimming pool.

Because above-ground swimming pools are so cheap and widely available, they have opened up a whole new domestic market in the leisure pool industry. These above-ground swimming pools have now become a practical and affordable option for many families, even those with relatively small gardens.

The appearance of an above-ground swimming pool can be significantly improved by surrounding it with decking on an elevated platform that brings the decking up to the height of the swimming pool and by using a tile mimicking liner.

Above-ground swimming pools do not usually require planning permission since they are not considered as permanent structures. You should of course check this out with you local council or government planners before you order your pool.

A number of the links below will tell you more about above-ground pools, their costs and the level of planning and construction etc required for this kind of swimming pool project.
